.unexpected
so, today, i woke up with yesterday's headache. while showering, i massaged my neck to make the aching feel better. at one point, my wet hand slipped and my nails dug two deep scratches into my skin. it now looks as though i've recently fought off my some back-ally attacker, only, where the back ally in south orange county is i'm not sure. there isn't one in my neighborhood, unless you count the gorgeous, new, premium grocery store.
that said, i debated going to work. knowing how short-handed we tend to be on thursdays, i went anyway. not feeling well from the get-go, i briefed the manager and we made arrangements to send me home to get some rest around 10:30. i went home, diligently called & left a message for the doctor, ate, and took a nap. around 1:30, i was awakened by the doctor's assistant returning my call. details of the call are irrelevant, but i was awake. and that is when things got really strange.
getting up from my nap, i put on my glasses, & looked across the room. *blink* ... *blink, blink* ... "why is the cat so blurry?" i wondered. blinking more, panic swiftly settled on my heart as i took off my glasses, wiped them clean with my shirt, and put them on again. no change. i got up, put moisturizing drops in my eyes, checked for random floating objects, and felt the blood begin to race as my panic overtook rational thought. i called. josh. mom & dad. doctor. mom & dad. doctor. waited. doctor called me. advised i go to urgent care. mom or dad called (or they both called at different times, it's sort of a blur). i called josh. called urgent care. called josh. called patricia. paged patricia. patricia called. patricia called will. patricia called. will picked me up & i arrived at urgent care.
breathe.
saw the doctor. blood pressure 120/80 (that's actually high for me, although it is normal for most)got prescription for migraines. swore off all smoking all together even in casual once-every-three-months fashion. promised to exercise. promised to call doctor first thing tomorrow to arrange for full check-up/blood work. heard scary words like "migraine", "mini-stroke", "brain tumor", and "diabetes". patricia greeted me in the waiting room. we went back to my house. she prayed for me. monty greeted me as i walked inside. i love my cats.
the thing about my vision is that it got better over the course of the afternoon. i still feel extraordinarily tired and when they checked my vision at the urgent care, my left eye (which should be fine with my glasses) was weaker. i was unable to read lines that were clear with both eyes and my right eye alone. so, both my eyes are a bit strained right now. i am beat and i really hope tonight's rest restores some energy here.
*sigh* so that was my day. how 'bout yours?
